Thera-Band Academy Helps Raise Research Funds for Foundation for Physical Therapy
May 13th
Akron, Ohio – May 10, 2010 – Partnering with several physical therapy and physical therapist assistant schools in the U.S., the Thera-Band Academy supported ten continuing education seminars entitled, Beyond Bands: Evidence-Based Progression of Elastic and Proprioceptive Exercises. The workshops were used as fundraisers for students, with most of the money being donated to the Miami-Marquette Challenge for the Foundation for Physical Therapy.
“The one-day workshop was developed to help support evidence-based practice with readily available equipment like resistance bands and exercise balls, while emphasizing immediate clinical applications based on the latest research from around the world,” stated Phil Page, PhD, PT, ATC, CSCS, director of clinical education and research for the Thera-Band Academy. “We are very happy to have helped raise over $20,000 through the schools. Our partner schools did a great job in providing both education and supporting research. Over 75% of the attendees noted that the workshop ‘exceeded’ their expectations, allowing us to believe that this was a win-win situation.”
Page continued, “In addition, the program provided exposure for the Thera-Band Academy and what we do. The Academy’s web site, www.Thera-BandAcademy.com, connects healthcare professionals and consumers to the ever growing body of research, protocols and exercise.”

Introducing the New Thera-Band Shoulder Pulley
May 2nd
Akron, Ohio – April 30, 2010 – Performance Health / Hygenic Corporation announces the introduction of the new Thera-Band® Shoulder Pulley, an essential tool for patients undergoing shoulder rehabilitation in regaining and maintaining range of motion.
“Unlike conventional pulleys, the Thera-Band Shoulder Pulley features a unique rope that’s divided into sections by distinct black marks. By referencing the position of these marks during exercise, patients get immediate feedback on progress. This visual feedback validates that they are improving, which is key to patient motivation,” stated Anna Schrock, Product Manager for Performance Health / Hygenic Corporation. “The marked rope also allows the rehab professional to set precise goals and limitations so that patients know how far to go and where to stop.”
“The ability to move the shoulder joint is vital for functionality in everyday physical activities, and anyone from weekend athletes to gardeners to do-it-yourself painters can experience shoulder problems,” added Phil Page, PhD, PT, ATC, CSCS, director of clinical education and research for the Thera-Band Academy. “We commonly see limited range of motion in post-operative rotator cuff tear repairs, shoulder reconstruction, and frozen shoulder, or ‘adhesive capsulitis’ patients. Physical therapy and therapeutic exercise are the keys to successful outcomes in these patients, More >
APTA Endorses Thera-Band Latex-free Resistance bands
Apr 9th
ALEXANDRIA, VA, April 7, 2010 — The American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) has endorsed the new and improved Thera-Band® Latex-Free Professional Resistance Bands, an important complement to the market-leading Thera-Band® Latex Professional Resistance Bands from Performance Health/Hygenic Corporation.
The endorsement is in response to requests by physical therapists, physical therapist assistants, and their patients for a product that is as effective as the Thera-Band latex band system, but is appropriate for people who experience allergic reactions to latex. The new and improved latex-free bands use the same recognized colors and offer the same resistance levels as Thera-Band Professional Latex Resistance Bands that continue to be endorsed by APTA, as they have since 1995.
“The new latex-free resistance bands were endorsed by a unanimous vote by the APTA Endorsement Committee,” said APTA President R. Scott Ward, PT, PhD. “This new product underwent significant clinical field testing with great results. We are proud to add the new Thera-Band Latex-Free Professional Resistance Bands to our endorsed product line.”
