Thera-Band Academy Helps Raise Research Funds for Foundation for Physical Therapy
Akron, Ohio – May 10, 2010 – Partnering with several physical therapy and physical therapist assistant schools in the U.S., the Thera-Band Academy supported ten continuing education seminars entitled, Beyond Bands: Evidence-Based Progression of Elastic and Proprioceptive Exercises. The workshops were used as fundraisers for students, with most of the money being donated to the Miami-Marquette Challenge for the Foundation for Physical Therapy.
“The one-day workshop was developed to help support evidence-based practice with readily available equipment like resistance bands and exercise balls, while emphasizing immediate clinical applications based on the latest research from around the world,” stated Phil Page, PhD, PT, ATC, CSCS, director of clinical education and research for the Thera-Band Academy. “We are very happy to have helped raise over $20,000 through the schools. Our partner schools did a great job in providing both education and supporting research. Over 75% of the attendees noted that the workshop ‘exceeded’ their expectations, allowing us to believe that this was a win-win situation.”
Page continued, “In addition, the program provided exposure for the Thera-Band Academy and what we do. The Academy’s web site, www.Thera-BandAcademy.com, connects healthcare professionals and consumers to the ever growing body of research, protocols and exercise.”
“We truly appreciate the financial support and exposure this program generated for both the Miami-Marquette Challenge and physical therapy research,” commented Robert J. Brennan, Executive Director of the Foundation for Physical Therapy. “Each year, for the past 21 years, students at PT and PTA schools across the country have made an impact on physical therapy research by supporting the Foundation for Physical Therapy through the Marquette Challenge. To date, students have raised more than $1.5 million.”
The goal of this year’s Miami-Marquette Challenge was to raise $200,000. The top fundraising schools will be announced at the Foundation’s annual gala on Thursday, June 17, 2010 during APTA’s Annual Conference in Boston.
